Yoga and Healthy Lifestyle

Trying to lead a healthy lifestyle has been my main prerogative for some time now. This International Yoga Day I decided to share my yoga journey with my friends. We are constantly face with a multitude of options on a daily basis which tempt us to deviate from the path of health. I have realized in 2021 that practicing Yoga on a regular basis is one of the easiest path to maintaining both my physical and mental health.

Health Struggles

I have been struggling several health issues for some time now. But a sudden weight gain in the past two years due to several stressors really made me realize that I am going wrong somewhere. Eating health was not working by itself. I decided to notch my efforts up a bit. Inspired by this post, and a doctors recommendation to walk at least 4 kms a day, I went ahead and bought a treadmill. I walked my quota of 4 kms but still was not satisfied with the results. Also life stresses were at an all time high and I just could not seem to cope up.

Down Dog

I realised I need to do something more together with my walking. I don’t enjoy traditional exercises. So just browsing through the internet I came across a wonderful application called “ Down Dog” yoga app. It is a paid app on google play, but during the growing physical and mental health crisis during the pandemic, they kept the app free.

Reaching Out

So I reached out and took some help and am practicing a full hour of sweaty Vinyasa yoga together with my daily quota of 45 minutes of walking. And Oh my! This together with the love of my plant babies really made a difference in both my physical health as well as my mental state. For e.g before I started my new journey, I was constantly plagued with thoughts of existential nihilism. Life seemed pointless and with absolutely no meaning. Now I have made my peace with the existential dilemmas. Not only yoga, but several other life changes have helped me deal with this. But the best part of yoga is,; after I complete my one hour daily session I am left feeling like “I did something productive today!”.

Overthinking and the resultant anxiety has and is a constant problem in my life. But yoga seems to be reducing my overthinking nature and helping me be mindful. I am truly grateful for this yoga app which made such a huge difference in my life.

Why use this app?

The best part about the Down Dog app is that you can choose from a wide variety of yoga types raging from a full vinyasa practice, hatha yoga, quick flow, chair yoga, ashthanga yoga etc. The flows can be customised according to skill level with options for specific boosts like core, quads, hamstrings, chest and shoulders etc. So if you are a beginner or a pro-yogi, you can use the Down dog app.

Customize based on your needs

Just to be clear, this post is in no way sponsored by Down Dog. I have fallen in love with this yoga app and just wanted to share it with as many people possible.
