We returned to Lachen after enjoying the serene beauty of Gurdongmar Lake. Next on our North Sikkim itinerary was Lachung, Zero point in Yumthang valley, and back to Gangtok.
Hubby was feeling much better and on his way back to recovery. Next morning we set out early fo Lachung from Lachen.
Lachung,North Sikkim
At Lachung, we settled into a river side camp hotel, Keerong Cottage. It was very basic but served its purpose. The view from our room was very pretty and made up for the basic facilities. Here we had an overnight stay and next day we had a trip to Zero Point, Yumthang Valley. There we were expecting some snow.
Mesmerising sunrise and Rhododendrons
Next morning we set out early for Zero point in Yumthang Valley from Lachung. On the way we experienced a mesmerizing sunrise.
The mountains were carpeted with rhododendron trees and other trees of red, yellow a green hues. The overall effect was breath taking! Paul told us that April is the best time for flowering rhododendron in Yumthang valley. So immediately we made a plan to come again in April to see the rhododendron flowers.
Zero Point, North Sikkim
After a quick breafast at a shack, we reached Zero Point . It is situated at an altitude of 15,300 ft and is the last point of visit for civilians before reaching China border. The wind was icy cold here and true to its name it felt like it was zero degrees!
We crossed a small icy rivulet and reached the base of a glacial mountain. Here we had some fun in the snow, clicked a lot of pictures.

Jalebi Point
Then we bid adieu to zero point and set out for Lachung.
On the way down from Zero Point, a “Jalebi Point” board caught our eye. We were feeling very hungry, so such an invitation was hard to ignore. So we stopped there and it turned out to be a small military setup selling piping hot samosas and as you can guess, jalebis. We enjoyed the snack with some tea, and headed back to Lachung.

The next day was our return to Gangtok. As a result the melancholy of a trip coming to an end was beginning to set in. But we had one more day filled with lots of fun in Gangtok before our flight back home.
Coming up next ….
