Home Gardening Tips: Gardening Hacks (Part 2)
This post is the second post in my series of gardening posts about tips, tricks and gardening hacks that every beginner gardener should know. In my last post I have shared about all the food that I feed my plants to keep them healthy and shining.

Happy Blooms Happy Me

As a result in the past few weeks I have been rewarded with a garden full of happy blooms. In return, thinking about them keeps me happy throughout the day. They have a very positive effect on my mental health. In fact gardening is the one thing that has practically lifted me out of my deepest glooms and moments of despair. So I guess I owe a lot to my plants.

Bug Control measures

Desperation fills my heart time that there is a pest attack in any of my beloved plants. I have to save the from the evil creepy crawlies which seem to have a single point agenda to destroy my plants! Now after a few years of experience I have chalked out a defence plan in the unfortunate event of a pest attack on my garden. I have a full arsenal of anti pest measures which I bring out in full force at the first signs of a bug infestation.

  • The first thing that I do on detecting a pesky bug on any of my plants is to isolate it. I remove the infected plant away from the others to avoid spreading of the insects.
  • Then I remove the visible insects with the help of a wet tissue/ napkin. If the degree of infestation is high and the plant is small in size then the plant is taken away for a bath!
With the help of a hand shower I spray away all the insects/eggs and visible signs of infection.
  • Then it is kept under observation and sprayed with organic insecticides till it becomes healthy again.
  • There are some specific organic insecticides that have worked for me
and I will share them with you.

Cardinal Rules

All of these pesticides have worked for me. But there are some cardinal rules that I follow before applying pesticides to the infested plants,

Always read the instructions and carry out proper dilution for optimum results and avoiding any damage to your precious plants.

I never spray pesticides in full sun as that causes plants to burn or be damaged.

Always carry out a small patch test for a day before trying out a new pesticide on an entire plant.

The pesticides will have to be sprayed as per need as and when necessary. So you have to stay extra vigilant when an infestation is going on. These are tricky times and if you lose patience then be ready to lose the plant baby.

I use mainly organic pesticides to avoid any damage to the plants as well as the environment. So whenever you think that how do I keep bugs out of my garden naturally, don’t think twice but come back to this post. All these gardening hacks are all tried and tested by yours truly and they have worked wonders. I have faced my fair share of losses in this journey and have shed copious tears on losing many a rose plant in the face of a bug attack. But patience, constant care and being on alert now helps me save my plant babies from the devilish pests.

This post is part of #CauseAChatter with Blogchatter in which I will try to do my bit to contribute to the talk on environment.
