Food for Thought
Before I come to my recipe for Orange Pound Cake, I would like to share some food for thought.Recently I seem to have developed some interest in philosophy. The ancient philosopher Aristotle believed that happiness for human beings is connected to function. A persons life can be happy one when he has a sense of purpose to fulfill a function. Now what is a humans purpose? According to Aristotle, a humans’ purpose is, to use sense of reason to act morally right.
I remember when I was young I used to always worry about whether I was being a good or not. For some reason it was very important for me. I always felt that it is the only thing in this world that is totally in my control. And the though of being good gave me a feeing of deep happiness. Now the definition of good or bad may vary from person to person. For me being good meant thinking good thoughts even when I am thinking, alone, where there is no one to judge me.
We can truly be happy if we can be optimally active and reach our fullest potential in doing things that we like to do. So if you like to paint, you should go ahead and paint even more. Reach the maximum level of your potential. That is the secret behind true happiness. You can read more about Aristotle and happiness here.
