Today I will give my review of cold pressed Rosehip oil for skin. I have dabbled in my fair share of gambling with skin care products and that has given me a lot of hits and misses. Having oily to combination and sensitive skin does not help a lot in such gambles. But my inherent love for experimentation and trying out new things makes me stay on the constant lookout for new and healthy skin care products.
Ever since I had heard of rosehip oil I was of the opinion that it is actually rose oil which has been given a fancy name. But further research revealed something different. Rosehip oil or rosehip seed oil is extracted from the seeds of Rosa canina(Dog rose) plant, which is a variety of climbing wild rose.
This oil which is made from the seeds found in the rosehip is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, antioxidants ,polyphenols, which help to protect from daily oxidative stress and give the skin a healthy, youthful and supple appearance. (1).
This oil hydrates, moisturises, exfoliates and brightens, reduces inflammation and hyper pigmentation and is overall great for facial skin.(2)
I have used a cold pressed rosehip facial oil from Nykaa’s natural series for the last couple of weeks and will share my honest review here.
I came across Nykaa’s new range of cold pressed facial oils and was instantly intrigued. After going through the description of the entire range and I narrowed down on the rosehip oil. I had heard about this facial oil some time back. Many Hollywood celebrities give rave reviews about this product and I wanted to try it out myself.
The product comes in a blue glass bottle with a dropper. The oil is a beautiful honey golden in colour but very disappointingly does not smell like roses. I was really expecting that a lot.
The texture of Nykaa’s Rosehip oil is non sticky and does not leave a oily feeling on the face. I use only 2 to 3 drops for my face after cleansing at night. The oil is easily absorbed into the skin and does not sit heavily on my skin. I have been using this oil for around last two weeks. I prefer not to use this on my face while going out during the day as it is very hot and humid here in Kolkata.
The oil does make my skin brighter, moisturised and hydrated and has not broken me out at all (that was a big fear!). I have not yet seen much effects on hyper pigmentation as of yet and I guess I will have to use it for a longer time to tell the difference. I also use this oil as a moisturiseron my arms and legs for a quick sheen when I feel too lazy to rub in moisturiser.
It is a good product and I will continue to use it to reap its maximum benefits. What I loved best is it is not too pricey (Rs 325/- for 100 ml) and is affordable. Also this oil did not cause sensitivity or any inflammation, which is a major risk I take whenever I use a new skin care product.
Overall I will give this product an 8/10 and will give an update on its effect on my skin for long term use.
