“Hello Healthy Skin” Book Review

Hello Healthy Skin” by Sindhu Vinod Narayan:A Book Review

Skin-tilating Issues!

Women and their skin have a never ending love hate relationship. We are always in search of the holygrail healthy skin secrets.

  1. I myself can vouch for this. I have been plagued with oily and acne prone skin from my teen years like so many other young girls. It led to a lot of self confidence issues and “why me” situations!
How I would wish and wish that I also could have the crystal clear glowing skin of the girls in the T.V commercials. But alas! I was plagued by on and off bouts of acne and the associated hyperpigmentation.

I was always wishing that my friends who were blessed with clear skin would share their healthy skin secrets with me. Also that was the pre- internet era. So gathering information was not as easy as it is now with our beloved Google!

My quest for Healthy skin

I tried many things in my quest for perfect healthy skin. Those I will share in details in a future post. It was finally in my mid twenties that I met the best dermatologist in Jaipur who turned out to be my skin saviour. Without any super expensive skin treatments or procedures, only with the help of few medications my skin woes were cured. I finally got the skin of my dreams.

Healthy skin maintenance

To maintain my skin health, I then started using simple natural kitchen ingredients. So when I came across this book “Hello Heathy Skin: Skin Care secrets from your Kitchen” by Sindhu Vinod Narayan on Blogchatters ebook listing, I was thrilled to bits. I could now increase my knowledge about skin care ingredients.
The positives of this book
Sindhu has given an extremely detailed and exhaustive account of all the easily available kitchen ingredients that work wonders for the skin. She has enlisted all the natural ingredients from A to Z which help our skin and hair. What I liked is she has classified the use of the ingredients according to skin types. That is very helpful. It is evident that a lot of patient research has gone into this book.
What could have been better?
I would have liked it better if the science behind the workings of each skin care ingredient in this book with links to some authority sites for the same would have been given. For e.g papaya has an enzyme called papain which helps to remove dead skin, damaged keratin due to its protein dissolving nature. In my opinion these details can raise this book to an expert level skin care guide.
Overall this is a wonderful effort by Sindhu and she has done a commendable job in enlisting most of the kitchen secrets for healthy skin. You can download the book here

Book Blurb

Almost every ingredient in our kitchen has a unique skincare property. Our ancestors knew this from the very beginning. And it is all coming back into the trend with companies bringing in products based on ubtan, sandalwood, besan, and aloe vera. People are hesitant to use it from kitchens but are happy when the same is bottled and given in brightly labeled packs. The book brings you ingredients from home and their skincare purpose so that you could make the switch sooner. Say goodbye to chemicals and hello to skincare from in-home ingredients.
