Being the best version of yourself

My 9 year old niece, during one of our in depth telephonic conversations informed me that, “Mimi! Did you know that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop!” I was shocked to hear such wisdom from the tiny tot. It really got me thinking. Doing nothing does feel good once in a while. But, not always. Personally, I am in my bestest of moods when I get all the to dos in my list ticked. I call that being the best version of yourself. That also includes my skin and hair behaving perfectly which also takes a lot of behind the scene work!

Procrastination

Procrastination is a good old friend of mine. So for me it’s a real uphill task motivating myself to get up and get things done. However good it feels at the end. So, to get out of the vicious circle of procrastination I try a reward system with myself. I give myself little treats when I finish a task. Maybe sometimes a bit too hard on myself also. I do tend to make an extremely tedious to do list filled with many extracurricular activities. This poses a problem for me on the office days. Because after returning home at 7 pm, it gets really tough to finish a painting, write and post a blog, squeeze in a workout, do some skincare and also try to have an early dinner! Leave aside getting any reading or netflix-ing done.

So nowadays I try not to be too hard on myself. I pace myself out and try to accept that I am doing as much as I can. I get my inspiration from all the other inspiring women in my life and social circle. It helps me stay strong.

Despite all of this, there is a constant nagging thought at the back of my mind. What if this is not enough? Will I be able to cope with all the changes that the future holds. What will I have to give up? Will I be able to be the best version of myself? How can I make myself better?

Please give tips in the comments about how you cope and try being the best version of yourself.

  1. Very apt and well written post. I usually try to compartmentalize things. I have realized that if I think too many things at one go, it affects my mental peace. Then, I think that thinking alone wont solve the problems. We have to actually work for it. Since, it is not possible to work out everything at one go, so, my mantra to stay sane, one thing at a time, relaying between(as per priorities), works well for me.

  2. By accepting life as it comes, take it day by day, living in the things that interest me, being good with everyone even when the reciprocation is not always the same nd having a positive frame of mind. 😉

  3. This post felt like I was reading about my own problems. I also have trouble starting my tasks even though an unfinished to-do list gives me anxiety.

I’ve found that I can get more done by waking up early and packing as much work as possible in the morning hours before the rest of the family wakes up.

  4. I just take things a day at a time. I also used to pack my free time with so much stuff that it was virtually impossible to complete it in a day. Now i keep adding things on the list and keep removing them when they are done. I’ve also found out that we should have ample time to relax. That wiil not only rejuvenate us but may also give a different perspective when we get back on our to do list.
