Organic food in India
Organic food is produce that is grown without the use of any synthetic chemical fertilisers and pesticides. However organic food in India is a really dicey ball game. I personally find it very difficult to trust food that we consume and social media has made things worse. This is because the more you know, the more wary you become. The recent spice scandal has now made my worst fears come true.
Indian Spices Adulteration
Popular spice brands that we all use in our kitchens, have been found to contain carcinogenic content by international regulatory boards while they were being exported. If this is the situation, what are we supposed to do. Now I am finding myself grinding cumin/zeera in my brand new bullet mixer at 11 pm on a Sunday night!
Anyway, even before we definitively got evidence regarding this contamination scandal, we have been very aware about the ingredients that we use in the kitchen. Whenever it is feasible, I try to buy organic food grains, pulses, cold pressed oils etc. Now there is a lot of forgery in organic products, so it’s best to go for the reputed brands! Though the spice issue has made me doubt everything basically.
I say Organic
I recently came across a brand ” I say Organic” which have great organic grocery products on their website. Obviously I was immediately skeptical but on going through their website, I realized they have the requisite certification and “ quality assurance “.
I tried a few of their products like organic cold pressed mustard and sesame oil, raw unprocessed sugar a.k.a khand, raisins, sesame ,pumpkin seeds, roasted/ baked snacks made of poha, amaranth etc. All the products were of satisfactory quality and I particularly liked the organic Desi raw sugar called khand or khandsari.
Now the situation in the Indian market is such that fear related to the raw ingredients we are using in the kitchen has become a clear and present danger. However, in these murky waters, we find a tiny bit of peace of mind when we use of organic produce. Though we know our trust situation is like a palace of cards regarding this. However to fell that at least I am trying to do something for my family’s health, that is what makes me feel better. I would like to give a big shout out to Dr. Amrita @healthwealthbridge for exponentially increasing my awareness related to the food that we consume.
**I bought the products with a voucher I was gifted. However my review is genuine and totally my own.
