Sharing a weird story with you all which happened with me recently. I was casually scrolling down on instagram reels at the airport, irritated since our flight got delaaa……..aayed. ( Hey Spicejet, Shame on you!! Leave airline business and sell panipuri. People will bless you. )
Okay, the reel showed a playful golden retreiver waiting for its turn to grab a bite from a roast chicken which his owner was dicing into pieces. The owner did not give it to the dog immediately. He had a slice first and then while the dog got hyper excited, he cut a leg-piece and gave it.
The twist
Now, here comes the twist. While, most of the viewers would obviously expect the dog yo devour it immediately.. as these type of content are very common now a days. The dog actually ran outside the house to the front yard and put the meat piece somewhere in the corner over a piece if polished rock slab. The camera person shooting the video went behind the dog and when it panned near its food, it seemed that it was sort of a grave of another similar looking dog with its photo on it. It was maybe the other partner who had expired recently. The dog wagged its tail.. but did not eat it.. and the reel gets over. It all happenned in 10-15 secs.
Being Emotional
I felt heat-broken immediately. I was in a crowded public space. People seated on all sides in the vicinity, people coming towards you, walking past you in an ‘orderly chaos’. Somehow, i could control my tears then. My wife with her mom was doing some airport fun shopping, walking, then eating, then more walking. 24 hours later, while we were driving to Shillong, listening to music, on the way i suddenly remembered the reel again how the dog put the meat piece for its departed partner. This time tears came out but did not roll down. I carefully wiped them off!! (Lol). I guess no one could see.
Analysis/ Interpretation of the reel
No, I am that not jobless.. yet!! He he. I dont do this often. But, after writing this piece and giving it some more thought, I realized that its just a social media content. The overall motive of this reel seems to rub the emotional quotient of the viewers and to garner likes, comments/share.. ultimately monetization maybe. And to a great extent it is sucessful in doing so. I saw it again. Maybe it is all scripted and the dog was trained to do so just for the reel.
And moreover, it is shared by someone from south India it seems.. and the clip is mirrored.. that means its not even his original content.. reused after video post processing. But, funny that I could write something out of it. Guess, thats what is social media for. Inspirations, idea sharing etc.. a symbiotic relashionship. But, I think it should be done with ethics.
Have a good day. Take care.
Sharing the link of the reel with you all.
I’m participating in #BlogchatterA2Z for the month of April and this is the T post.
Honestly, i would have bawled my eyes out. Straight up ugly crying. And you’re right, social media will never be able to extricate itself from its ‘vanity’ factor. And also alot of Indian accounts are using other people’s content, mirroring it and re uploading without giving credit, especially in the shorts and reels. Whatever the original uploaders intent, the reuploaders is also trying to mint it. Despicable stuff…Its good to share your views~
