International Women’s Day 2024 #Inspire Inclusion

Top post on Blogchatter

I will start by wishing all the lovely ladies a very happy International Women’s Day ❤️. There is a detailed post on when and how IWD celebrations started here and you can go through it to know more.

Me in my workplace…somewhere in Garo Hills, Meghalaya

Recently we watched a movie called Laapata Ladies which seems to fit perfectly into the theme of this year’s IWD I e #inspire inclusion and #investinwomen. Here I will give a short review of Laapata Ladies and why you must watch it.

The movie starts out as a comedy of errors with a bride mix up during a train journey. Now you may ask how can a bride get mixed up. Wellll…

These brides were from remote Indian villages where they keep their faces covered all the time with a ghunghat/ veil especially so when they are a new bride. I don’t know what this fascination is about women covering their face in so many societal setups!!

Anyway, throughout the movie in the guise of humor and comedy, the makers have brought out many of the societal problems which plague our country. This ranges from gender inequality and bias, misoginy, corruption, dowry ,denying of right to education, domestic violence, commodification of women etc. All the actors have played their roles with sincere honesty resulting in thought provoking movie watching.
We totally loved the movie, though the hubby started to grumble a bit in the beginning about what are we watching, yada yada. But he loved the movie too.

This post for IWD2024 is one after a very long gap for me. I have been unable to write and be productive for the past couple of months. The year 2024 till now has been very difficult for us as a family. Personally for me, I have experienced the most happiness in my life followed by the severest heartbreaking grief ever in a very short span of time .

But when we went to see this movie, incidentally our first theatre one in 2024, for the first time in months, I felt a spark of joy. It’s that kind of a movie.
