Breakfast
The third day of our Darjeeling Trip. Read Part 1and Part 2.
Next day we woke up early in the morning ( read that as 8 am!) had a cup of Darjeeling tea and marie biscuits in our room. Then as our car arrived, we took our baths and went down to have our breakfast. Breakfast was a lavish spread as usual. I had my usual fruit platter, watermelon, guava, followed by multigrain buttered toast, egg white omelette, sour cherry Danish, a bit of a puri from hubbys plate. This was followed by our usual, cups of aromatic ginger tea.
Mirik Lake
Completing our lunch, we started our mountainous road trip to Mirik Lake a.k.a Sumendu Lake. It was a picturesque route, only the weather was a bit cloudy. The driver was very pleasant and after around 1.5 hours we stopped at the Tingling view point where the driver wanted to have tea. We clicked some photos in front of the I Love Mirik sign and then set off for the lake. This lake is only 59 km from Darjeeling town and a must visit.
Riot of Colours
We reached Mirik Lake by around 1pm, cut a 20 rs ticket for the lakeside flower garden. It was a colourful and picturesque garden with the most beautiful cinerarias, buttercups, asters, dahlias spreading riot of colours including pink, light blue, prussian blue, titanium white, yellow, violet, red, magenta, dark mauve. We spent some qualitytime at the lakeside. Then did some tea shopping from the Golden Tips store and Chai Chun store. We bought Okayti Darjeeling tea and Golden Tips first flush and second flush teas. Few of the teas were gifts and some were for us.
Tea by the Lake
Then we decided on route, to have some tea at the Goodricke Tea pot “ Tea by the Lake café”. This a sister cafe of our favourite Goodricks Margaret’s Deck on the way to Darjeeling on the Kurseong route. On our last family vacation to Darjeeling, we had a stand off with the driver who tried to refuse a stop at Margaret’s Deck! The audacity! So this time we were elated at the sight of this picturesque Tea by the Lake Café at Mirik. He we had aromatic Autumn flush Darjeeling tea with a slice each of ginger and apple walnut tea cake.
Pashupati phatak
After that we set out for Pashupati phatak where we ate chicken momos and veggie noodles overseen by a four legged friend called Putu! He was exceptionally friendly with me, as if he knew me from before, and even gave me a little “hi how are you” foot lick! Finally our outing for the day was over and we returned back to our resort through the serpentous mountain roads of Mirik.
We decided to relax for a while in our room before going for the dinner buffet. Bingeing on a Netflix series called You, followed by Darjeeling tea with Marie biscuits was our pre dinner relaxation.
Birthday excitement
The next day was hubbys birthday, so the excitement was high. Finally we went for our last nights dinner at Mayfair resort. I was delighted to see that maybe because it was his birthday tomorrow , in the desert section rice kheer was prepared which is usually made at home on birthdays. The food was delicious as usual. Followed by our usual one hour post dinner brisk walk to digest the scrumptious food which obviously included mutton biryani! We ushered in the birthday with orange flavoured dark chocolate wishing hubby happy birthday with prayers for all his wishes to come true. I also tried to play the happy birthday tune on the ukulele which had made the cut and accompanied us on this trip!
Birthday Cheer
The next day we woke up with birthday cheer in our hearts. A relaxed morning followed by the elaborate Mayfairs buffet breakfast was calling us. He cut a birthday cupcake, with me singing “ happy birthday to you” . This was followed by cups of fragrant ginger tea in rustic kullhars. Then after a fast walk in the lawns we returned to our rooms, took our baths. We quickly got ready to checkout and reach the airport to catch our flight to hubbys hometown Guwahati. This was the end of our Darjeeling Trip for this time. Bidding adieu to Darjeeling till we meet again soon on our next Darjeeling Trip ❤️
