The mysterious case of the Missing Suitcase occured during a short staycation in Guwahati, Assam from Shillong on an extended weekend Trip.
The plan was just to have fun since, a proper holiday was now due for a long time now. We decided to club this trip with a picnic along the way since driving through Meghalaya roads, anywhere you stop is a picnic spot. The venue was a quaint little resort called ‘The Bougainvillea Retreat’ located in Assam near Assam- Meghalaya border.

We decided to take an alternate route via Mairang. We heard thats a picturesque route and was planning to take this route for quite sometime now. So, in all the enthusiasm, we called our cook a bit early so that she can make the goodies we planned for picnic. It was a picnic breakfast.
The lunch was pre booked at a place called ‘The Orange County’ in Jhimirigaon which is now called ‘Bonoriya Agro Ecotourism ‘ which has a beautiful orange plantation to their name.

For the picnic we prepared peas-paratha, aloo dam, tea and some kaju katli( from a favorite sweet shop). We love to take foldable chairs from Decathlon and our little picnic basket.So, as planned we set out for our trip. We stopped somewhere picturesque near Mairang for our breakfast near a small undulated grassy patch just near the NH.
Enjoying our meal, we took some photos and had our tea. Satiated we started our journey along the new trail.. i.e Via Mairang. The landscape was nice and we got a different view from the usual route. We stopped at a few place for nature photography.
Finally, after 2hrs 30 mins of drive we reached Jhimirigaon orange county. After strolling for a while, we had a psumtous meal. The experience was unique and I will share it in another blog separately.
Finally, we reached Bougainvillea resort(our 2nd visit), Guwahati at around 5:45 pm. As we got down from our car we realised our overnighter bag was not there in the rear seat. For a few moments we were stumped. Discussing what could have happened we checked in to the resort in and after some discussion we concluded that we left our ‘Suitcase’ at home! So officially this was our first case of a trip with “The Missing Suitcase” making its place special in history! Since, it was an overnight stay, we had packed both our luggages in a single overnighter and we completely forgot to get it with us.It was highly frustrating since, we had packed very nicely fresh bed linens, our respective toothbrush, night cream, day cream of the wife (and me too..).
When I tried to recollect how It happened, I remembered that I was so excited packing for the picnic goodies, chairs,etc that I forgot to load the suitcase. The wife also forgot, thinking that I already might have taken it to the car as it is the normal. Also, a picnic and a staycation happening together was a first. We pack either of these items in the car. So, I guess, it was kind of a muscle memory that was at play. Also, we might have had a slight tiff’ just before going out. 😉

Just after check-in we went hunting for bedsheets and night suits in the local market. It was a different kind of experience!
Advise
These things need to be done mindfully and avoid having tiffs just before going out somewhere nice.
